I had the honor to be one of the press supporters of ‘Fro Fashion Week and as usual I had a wonderful time! This was my third ‘Fro Fashion Week and I always enjoy it. This was one of the first events I attended when I first moved to Atlanta and I met so many wonderful people that I am still connected with. I always attend the event alone but I always find some awesome people to hang out with.

‘Fro Fashion Week hosted workshops and vendors. Workshops topics varied from learning about your hair type to branding. ‘Fro Fashion Week is more than about hair it’s also about enriching the lives of the attendees. I always leave learning something new!

I attended the Master Your Kinks Hands-On Natural Hair Workshop presented by Darcy’s Botanicals & Ma’Mocha Naturals. Attendees were asked  to wash and condition their hair  and also to wear a plastic cap. Upon their arrival they received  a natural hair styling kit containing two full size Darcy’s Botanicals Products and the styling tools needed to complete their style. At the event Telise, Director of Education for Darcy’s Botanicals, answered questions regarding hair care and also showed the ladies how to bantu knot their hair. Check out he pics below:

Hi my name is April and I am a narcissist. (Hi April). I don’t really think everything revolves around me but recently I have been a little more self-consumed than usual and I had to take a step back.  I noticed that I was taking more than giving and that the only thing I was beginning to care about was myself.  In my defense (said the guilty) I have been relying on myself more and with some of my personal relationships becoming extinct I have become more introverted and distant from the world. Well, more than usual. While I was going through one of my many narcissist moments I suddenly realized that it was not just about me. So one day during mediation I said a simple pray. How can I be of service?

I am a firm believer that when you ask a question that is sincere and heartfelt an answer will follow. I wake up every morning now and ask myself that question and have been amazed and amused of the results of the day. There have been few things I have noticed since asking to be of service.

The first observation I have noticed and learning is that there is no measure of service. Being of service can be as little as helping someone carry something as you walk to the same destination or donating your money or time.

Another lesson that I have learned/learning is that you have to be open and available to serve. When you wake up and declare that you will be of service to God or the Universe you have to be ready to receive your task or duties of the day.  You don’t always have to go out looking for things to do, it will feel natural, but you do have to be conscious enough to know when to step in. You never know when opportunities will present itself.

You also have to remember not be naïve.  People will take advantage of you when you are in the giving spirit. I was speaking with someone from my past and they were telling me things that I knew were a lie and I honestly felt conflicted with re-establishing a relationship with them. A mutual friend of ours said something to me that resonated so I decided to proceed but with caution.  You can’t help anyone who don’t want to be help and definitely don’t want to be an enabler disguised as a helper/friend.

Lastly when you open yourself up to be a service to God and others you open yourself up to receive. By allowing myself to have this open space I also allow myself to received things that I would normally be closed off to. I was meeting up with an old acquaintance and was having a deep/ spiritual conversation and because I was in the space that I was in I was able to be vulnerable and receive information that was very beneficial to me.

This has been my experience with trying to live my life in service. My plan is to expand my service and to help in other ways. I am curious to know if anyone has been or currently in a situation like this. If so I would love to hear your story.

I recently heard about Bentonite Clay and decided to try it on my hair. I used Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay because it was easy to locate  in stores and affordable. Bentonite Clay can be used for skin and hair.

Benefits of using Bentonite Clay

-Removes oils, dirt, debris and product buildup

-Detoxes skin and hair

-Does not strip your hair like shampoo

-Great for detangling

-Enhances natural curl patter

-Nutrients  in the clay nourishes the follicles

-

I mixed with apple cider vinegar. It is best to use nonmetal utensils and bowls because contact with metal may decrease the clay’s potency.

I wet my hair  and thoroughly applied the clay mask to it. I placed a shower cap over  my hair for about an hour(most people leave int on 15 or 20 mins). I didn’t let the mask dry on my hair completely.

This is my hair after the mask. It defined my curls without major shrinkage.

I styled my hair in a twist out afterwards!

Overall I love this product. It is affordable ($7.99) but  also healthy and great for your hair/skin. This is definitely one of my favorite products and will be part of  my hair care regimen.
